Significance

Provide milk cows and teach related barn management and feeding techniques. Aiding dairy farming apparatus improves milk production and this allows North Korean children to drink more milk. Also, raising milk cows and producing milk help economic growth.

Size

In 1998, Good Neighbors sent 104 milk cows to Daean Dairy Farm, Yonggang Dairy Farm, Junghwa hybridized cow farm, and Gubinee collective farm, and has sent 510 milk cows to North Korea to date. Milk cows are naturally increased, and now 1,148 cows are raised. This also improves milk production. In 2007, total milk production reached 1,148 tons and would improve nutrition of children. On top of that, we consistently support milk production apparatus such as milk bottles and yogurt glasses each year.

Produce 2.5 tons of milk per a cow except for milking a calf (average 10kg a day, based on 250 days of yearly production target)

Expected Outcome

Milk, which is produced from 4 dairy farms that were offered cows from Good Neighbors, is distributed to children in neighborhood. And this helps to supply nutrition to children living in Gubinee and to children who are in period of growth.

Significance

Assisting chicken farms helps to provide chicken which contains protein to children in a poor family. As a result, taking animal protein resolves imbalanced nutrition among them.

Size

Support Seopo Chicken Farm which has 400 thousand chickens, Samseok Chicken Farm which has 1.4 thousand chickens, and Yongsung Chicken Farm which produces 8 thousand of chickens a year(areas 40ha).

Expected Outcome

Modernizing the chicken farm makes chicken supply to children and local residents in North Korea remain stable. Also, Good Neighbors transmitted modernized facilities and new technologies, so this will be able to facilitate diverse areas of cooperation such as preventing bird flu.

Significance

Produce formula feed and provide it to Good Neighbors’ dairy farm and chicken farm, and this improves nutrition of livestock and increase production and quality of milk, chicken, and pork. This results in more nutrition supply to North Korean. Establishing a feed factory and the way of obtaining raw materials stick to Good Neighbors’ Cooperation and Development principles, dated from 1998, that is sustainable and independent support. In addition to agriculture, all cooperation projects show the future direction of virtuous circle of self development.

Size

Location : Jindo-dong, Nampo Facility Size : 10,000㎡ Production Scale : 50 thousand tons of feed a year Beneficiary : Ranches throughout North Korea

Expected Outcome

Promote Animal Husbandry in North Korea by offering formula feed, produced in the feed factory, to Good Neighbors’ chicken farm, dairy farm, and collective farm; as well as ranches(raising chickens, pigs, and cows) all over North Korea. Also, providing formula feed and increase in livestock population lead to raise in animal protein intake.

Significance

Completion ceremony of these facilities were held Jun. 2008.
